WalkingThe Luberon is a great destination for a walking holiday. The surrounding countryside of La Motte d'Aigues is wonderful all year round for walkers of all levels. Families with young children can enjoy the countryside safe in the knowledge that there is a nearby village with a shaded café where you can soak up the atmosphere with a refreshing drink or a lazy lunch. The more intrepid rambler can walk 5 to 6 hours per day and never repeat the same route twice. CyclingDepending on your level of fitness cycling in and around the Luberon can be challenging or leisurely. Take a bike ride off the beaten track through the beautiful unspoilt countryside and visit the nearby villages or for the more experienced cyclist there's always the challenge of Mont Ventoux!! We have bikes to hire for all the family when staying at Auberge de la Cour. Horse RidingThere is a Pony Club within walking distance (or cycling distance) from the house. Alternatively, there are some excellent Equestrian Riding Centres in the neighbouring villages should you wish to explore the countryside on horseback. SwimmingWe are lucky enough to have a lake nearby. Just 20 minutes walk from the house you will find the Etang de la Bonde, the perfect place for a refreshing swim on a hot summer's day. If you prefer the sea then we are only 40 minutes drive away from the Mediterranean coast and some superb beaches. MarketsOne of the most enjoyable features of Provence is its markets where you can find an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese, honey, local handicrafts, pottery, material and other local specialities. Practically every day there is a market in one of the nearby villages and from mid June to the end of August we have a night market in La Motte d'Aigues where you can enjoy a very entertaining evening with music food and wine. |
